USA 1964 Kennedy Memorial Half Dollar
JFK was assassinated in Dallas Texas on 22nd November 1963. The very next year the United States of America issued the first of a series of half dollars bearing his head, as a commemorative memorial coin. The 1964 coin was made of 90% silver as had previous half dollars. Because of rising silver prices, and the general worldwide trend towards token or "fiat" money, the silver content was reduced and then eliminated in subsequent years, so that the 1964 issue remains as the definitive coin for most collectors.
