USA Buffalo Fine Gold Bullion Coin
In July 2006 the United States Mint introduced a new gold bullion coin made from fine (99.99% pure) gold to complement its existing series of gold eagle bullion coins. This new coin is the gold buffalo. Its design comes from the buffalo nickel which was issued from 1913 to 1938 inclusive. Both obverse and reverse of the new coin are modelled closely on its original, and much-loved five cent predecessor. The most likely reason for its issue is the increased market share taken by fine gold bullion coins made by other countries. There is also the factor of protectionism, in that countries such as Canada, who issue .999 or .9999 fine gold coins, impose import duties or sales taxes on gold coins below about 99%, even though 22 carat (91.66%) and 90% were traditional gold coin alloys for many centuries previously.
Most people who have seen the gold buffalo like the design, as we do. We believe it will be well received, and will become a major seller among gold bullion coins.
